Kid’s Pocket Science Center Opens to Public
The Kid’s Pocket Science Center located at G-1 and G-2, beside the DOSCST gymnasium held its inauguration program on September 05, 2016 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
Headed by the DOSCST Vice President for Research Development and Extension (RD&E), Dr. Roy G. Ponce, the science center opened its doors to the public. The project’s beneficiary is the Happy Fish Kids Afterschool Care Program. Happy Fish Kids Afterschool Care Program is also an initiative of Dr. Ponce which was established on July 24, 2007 at Sitio Taganilao, Brgy. Tam-isan, Mati City. The beneficiaries of the Science Center are the children of the fishermen in the said area.
“Kid’s Pocket Science Center’s purpose is to sustain the curiosity of our kids about science to prepare them as future scientists.” Dr. Ponce said. He added that the science center will also help the children of the fishermen in coastal areas.
This project is an Australian Alumni Grant Award by the Australian Embassy Philippines and the Philippine Australian Human Resource and the Organizational Development Facility (PAHRODF) to Dr. Roy G. Ponce in partnership with the DOSCST. The gallery is an on-going project in relation to the K-12 Science Curriculum.
Ms. Angela A. Fewer, the Australian Alumni Affairs manager, appreciated the efforts of all the contributors and partners of the event.
“On behalf of Australian Alumni Affairs, I personally thank everyone for cooperating and we do not just want to spread knowledge, but happiness as well within every community,” Ms. Fewer said.
The event was also graced by City of Mati Vice Mayor Glenda Rabat-Gayta. She appreciated the work done by Dr. Ponce along with his subordinates for the success of the project.
“We just have to motivate and switch on. We have a lot to learn from what you are doing right now,” she added.
The Kid’s Pocket Showcases the natural world, common pets, and the locally found flora and fauna. It is open from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Entrance Fee is 10.00 for all age bracket.
