IBPA holds Wednesday Seminar Series
With an aim to establish a culture of research excellence, the Institute of Business and Public Affairs (IBPA) of Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST) organized a seminar series to be conducted every Wednesday. The series, which commenced February 13, 2019, provides an avenue for research presentations, empowers early career researchers, and encourages peer mentoring.
“The purpose of this Wednesday Seminar Series is to provide an enabling environment for our early career academics and budding researchers to flourish in knowledge creation…”, emphasized Mr. Eliseo F. Huesca Jr., Dean of IBPA and the brainchild of the series.
This week, Huesca’s presentation entitled, “21st Century Graduate Research Capabilities” set the springboard for the Institute’s proactive response to enhance research productivity and innovation index especially in the fields of business, criminology and hospitality management. “…I have had the privilege to immerse myself in different research cultures and intellectual traditions of universities across Asia. With my appointment as Dean of IBPA, it gives me opportunities to replicate some of their best practices which cohere with our local realities. This Seminar Series is my first initiative at the Institute.”, emphasized Huesca.
Aside from research presentations, the series will also feature capacity building lectures on the writing of research proposals, preparing abstract for research fora, and packaging publishable papers in an informal and collegial setup. With this initiative, all faculty members of the Institute are given time to discuss, critic and mentor their colleagues that will ultimately result in significant research productivity.
While in its infancy stage, IBPA desires to pilot the mechanism and hopefully inspire other institutes to replicate the practice.
